Comics are back in flow, social life is back in tow, upcoming events are in grow and alcohol is yummy.

Saturday

There was a massive morning crowd waiting to get in on Saturday. This is the point where my natural tendency to be baffled by fandom generated actions started to get the best of me.

saturday
This was the third of the line to get in that was visible from the roof of the parking structure at 7am, 2 hours before the doors were scheduled to open.

So I went to the grocery shop and got a couple of plums and some yogurt for breakfast, made a coffee run. That kinda stuff. I specifically stopped brining my portfolio with me this day. I was pretty much done with portfolio reviews.

Instead I went to the Comic Book Tattoo panel and hung out with my friend Star who was published in it. That was kinda cool but I don’t think I’ve heard the words “as an artist” used to start a sentence so often in my life.

After that I went out for a walk and got some Ice Cream from the Eureka promo bus. Then on my way to hit the hotel bar nearby I practically walked right into Takashi Okazaki and Akiko, his very lovely translator. It was the closest thing to a fan moment I had as I started talking to them. They were very laid back about it. Aki took a picture of he and I with my camera and he took a picture of us with his camera and then we all went our separate ways.

I went into the bar and ended up having a chit chat with Ralph Bakshi at random. Had some drinks. Hung out, drew a label for the bar. Nothing too intense. While I was taking a break out in front of the bar with Rhi (my drinking buddy for the weekend) we witnessed a zombie march in progress. It was quite nifty.

zombies
brains!

I later went to the live Rifftrax showing of Plan 9 from Outerspace! It was quite a moment. I got to the theatre presuming it would be a movie with normal movie prices. However tickets were $27.00 and I had already bled out most of my funds so I couldn’t afford that at all. Luckily there was someone standing there who had bought a ticket, couldn’t get a refund and got stood up if I understood correctly so I inherited my seat for no cost to me. I don’t know where he went but I owe him a drink.

Sunday

I spent most of this day being social. One of my best friends and lead-host of Painful Addictions, Wes Toma, came down and we spent some time lingering and talking shop. I had a few little meetings in the morning and had to deliver on some mini stories I promised to a pair of ladies I met the night before. A lovely pair, Kait and Tina who had performed a combination of very interestingly touching acts of kindness. Not towards me specifically but in my range of sight. My cynical self warbled in the sight of such acts so I figured they should be rewarded. :-) Other than that I have nothing special to report.

I feel this whole story just died on such a low note but screw you guys. I had fun. :-)
